Clubs, Organizations and After School Care
Clubs & Organizations | After School Care
Do you have a talent you would like to share in an after school activity for children?
In the years past Gullett parents and friends have organized book clubs, exercise classes, art clubs and more.
Let us know if you have another great idea for an after school activity.
Clubs & Organizations
Astronomy
Study how stars, planets and moons combine to form through demonstration, hands-on activities and creative projects. Take a trip to NASA during Spring Break. For more information about this opportunity for third-fifth graders, contact Ms. Jeffrey, the club moderator, at 841-0337.
Austin Globetrotters
Austin Globetrotters is an exploration of our world and its many cultures. Each month, in four lessons, a new country will be explored. Your first - fourth graders can lean about the geography, history, language, art, food, music and, most importantly, the people of the area discussed. This is taught through games, art projects and other hands-on activities. The goal is to promote global understanding and cultural respect. Contact person for 2008-09 school year coming soon.
Math Pentathlon Club
The Math Pentathlon program offers students the opportunity to develop strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. It differentiates instruction by using specifically-designed board games to motivate all student of varying abilities and learning styles to enjoy math and spend more time learning it. Quote from a parent: "One of the most positive things about the games is that they unveil talents that kids never could have expected. This is because the games reveal talents not tapped into by traditional educational methods, but talents that are vital to the types of thinking and strategizing necessary in certain real world professions." Math Pentathlon is currently not available as an official extracurricular activity, though games are available for checkout in the library, and some parents are teaching them in the classrooms. If you would like to learn more about them, or would like help learning them, please contact Martha Stockton - mtstockton@earthlink.net. Also see www.mathpentath.org
