Frequently Asked Questions

Why Spanish?
Why Spanish? Studies have proven over and over that exposing children to a foreign language before the age of 12 makes overall language acquisition much easier. According to the ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages and Linguistics, children enrolled in foreign language programs score statistically higher on standardized tests conducted in English. Our children are required to take foreign language in high school - giving them Spanish in elementary school will make that requirement much easier for them later!
When does my child have Spanish?
You can see what time your child has Spanish by downloading and reviewing the schedule.
How will I know what my child learning?
Each month your child will bring home (via their class take-home folder) a sheet from the Spanish teacher. Each sheet will include current vocabulary words, new phrases, and optional activities to reinforce what they are learning at school. These sheets will stay at home as a reference. There will be no mandatory Spanish homework.
How is the Spanish Program funded?
The Spanish program is paid for entirely by the Gullett PTA. We receive no funding from AISD. Based on past surveys, the majority of parents and the PTA see Spanish as a valuable asset to our school and our children. This year, we have included the cost of the Spanish program in with the PTA no-frills fundraiser. We're asking you to help fund the Spanish program, as well as other PTA projects, by donating money to the PTA. Additional contributions for Spanish are always welcome.
